Definitions
Giclée Limited Edition
A French word loosely meaning sprayed. It has become the accepted term for the type of print that is being produced on state-of-the-art inkjet printers, which create an extremely high quality image by depositing millions of infinitesimally small droplets of ink on a substrate of paper, canvas, etc. The resulting print is nearly continuous in tone, with individual droplets of ink barely visible with a magnifying glass. The prints are usually hand numbered and signed by the artist.
Limited Edition
Artwork produced in a deliberately limited quantity. Each item in the edition is identical. The artist inspects each print before signing to ensure it is true to his/her original vision. The limited size of the edition enhances the value of each piece. The prints are usually hand numbered and signed by the artist.
Open Edition
A print edition of unlimited number with no artist signature.
